What to Exclude from AV (AntiVirus) Protection

Modified on Tue, 13 Aug at 2:59 PM

Background

If you are running into issues with the P11D Organiser, we would suggest ensuring that the application and it's folders are (and remain) excluded from your AV application and any 'real time' scanning that may be being performed - that would be everything in the folder that contains the P11D Organiser and all it's data.

You can establish the location of your Data Folder by observing the path in the lower left corner of your display when on the login screen, and it is everything in the folder ABOVE that which would need exclusion. In the example below, everything in \\vmpasuk01\sales\Demonstration would need to be excluded from AV:

Details (Generic entire directory whitelisting)

We highly recommend that you whitelist the P11D root directory recursively (that is, all directories/subdirectories) within the P11D organiser installed path. Where this is installed will vary dependant on your setup. but an example could be: C:\P11DOrganiser\P11D

This would mean you would want to whitelist: C:\P11DOrganiser\P11D\*

Note: the wildcard (*) in many antivirus products, wildcarding is often supported either manually or via an option which will denote that everything within the chosen directory is excluded. While we would encourage yourselves to look into how to do this for your chosen AV solution, we have linked some guides on how to do this with some of the most popular products:

  • Symantec
  • ESET
  • Avast
  • Windows Defender
  • Avira
  • Kaspersky Security Centre

More in depth analysis and specific whitelisting:

While it is fairly difficult to stop, or rather pin point all false positives or issues without whitelisting the entire directory due the vast amount of AV products being used and the realtime scanning/network security policies attached, below you will find a list of the key files needed to run the P11D Organiser should you wish to take a more tailored approach. There are four primary *.exe files being used, they are:

  • P11D\p11d.exe [main application]
  • P11D\PASUTILS\PASFIX\pasfix.exe [diagnostics tools]
  • P11D\PASUTILS\UPDATEAPP\updatep11d.exe [update software]
  • P11D\INSTALL\workstation.exe [installer]

There are two primary DLL files needed, they are:

  • P11D\WWIPSTUFF.DLL
  • P11D\WWDOTNETBRIDGE.DLL

There is an FLL file [FoxPro equivelant to a DLL]:

  • P11D\VFPENCRYPTION.FLL

We would also recommend whitelisting the file types due to being required by the P11D organiser:

  • fpt [extension for file maker pro database applications]
  • dbf [database file]
  • cdx
  • fpt
  • dbc
  • dct
  • dcx
  • pdf
  • ini
  • bat
  • txt
  • xml
  • err
