Installing the P11D Organiser in a Citrix Environment

Modified on Tue, 13 Aug at 2:49 PM

Background

The P11D Organiser can work well in published application environments such as Citrix. In general, we would advise that the core data and management application are stored on a single shared location, and that application servers are 'pointed' to this location to retrieve data.

This approach means that a user can be allocated to any application server, but they will always be accessing the same data, and usernames and passwords remain the same.

Installation Process

We would suggest following the process below when installing 'from new', we have added a section below for those customers that are moving an existing installation.

New Install

  1. Go to the first application server, and run the P11D Organiser setup file. During the install process, the installer will ask you to choose the location of the system - it is at this point you'd direct the installation at the shared locations (\\server\apps\P11DOrganiser for example). This would place all the necessary files on the shared drive, but also prepare the application server used to run the application.
  2. Once complete, you would then set up the ADMIN user and payroll users by following the provided guides.
  3. The final stage of the process is to create a P11D Organiser client on the server - this is effectively a version of the software that connects to the remote data, speeding communications and access. To achieve this, from the application server, log into the P11D Organiser, and then select Tools > Create P11D Client from the menu.
  4. This will install a client in C:\P11D Client on that app server.
  5. You would then 'publish' this application for your users.

If you were using a 'bank' of application servers, you would then follow these steps:

  1. On the subsequent application server(s, browse to the shared location (e.g. \\server\apps\P11DOrganiser).
  2. Within that location, find the folder named INSTALL, and within that, run the application named Workstation.exe, this would prepare the server to run the P11D Organiser correctly.
  3. On the application server, log into the P11D Organiser, and then select Tools > Create P11D Client from the menu.
  4. This will install a client in C:\P11D Client on that app server.
  5. You would then 'publish' this application for your users.

Moving an Existing Installation

  1. Locate the folder containing ALL of the existing installation of the P11D Organiser, and copy the COMPLETE folder to a known location on the chosen fileserver (for example, C:\Applications\P11D Organiser).
  2. On the application server(s), browse to the shared location (e.g. \\server\apps\P11DOrganiser).
  3. Within that location, find the folder named INSTALL, and within that, run the application named Workstation.exe, this would prepare the server to run the P11D Organiser correctly.
  4. On the application server, log into the P11D Organiser, and then select Tools > Create P11D Client from the menu.
  5. This will install a client in C:\P11D Client on that app server.
  6. You would then 'publish' this application for your users

You would repeat steps 2-6 should you be using multiple application servers.
